Saturday from Östersund to Stockholm
Today was a long but rather easy drive. Blue sky, temperatures in the top twenties and all we had to do was to drop down via DaleCarlia to Stockholm.
DaleCarlia, is a landscape in Sweden based around the lake Siljan. It was home to the artist Carl Larsson and is very idyllic. Today, with the sun up, its flowing green hills, red houses, maypoles and oldfashioned churches seemed more like a movie background than real.
But it was real, which Werner can verify as he tried the bathing water in Siljan. Actually, where we had stopped the lake was very shallow so Werner walked and walked in the water but it never got deeper than his knees.
After some more peaceful driving we approached Stockholm where we would have our final dinner and stay at the Hotel Malmen. Unfortunately, the hotel had lost their proper list of names and had a very badly spelt list so they refused to let people into their rooms. Chaos reigned as we made a hasty getback from our own apartment to the hotel. After a while we got most of the problems sorted and we could all relax in the bar before dinner, a classic swedish dinner with toast skagen and fillet of veal a la king Oscar II.
When dinner drew towards an end we decided to say a big thank you to all who came which is when all of you decided to surprise us. We were handed a voucher which said that we too, would get new boots when Ninotchka (our car) gets hers. A super gift, which we will look forward to picking up in Marburg.
