Thursday, 5th of July Björkliden to Mo I Rana

We started out quite early in the morning, knowing that the roads ahead were neither fast nor very good. The days tour was to take us to Norway, and the norwegian police are notorious for their speed surveillance and also for their high fines as one of our group found out (2000 norwegian cronas for 19 km above the limit which is a measly 80). Passing Narvik, those of us who read Norwegian could read the rather NPC offers of whale steak at the supermarkets. We didn't buy any.

At Bognes most of us had to wait for our ferry passage which delayed us even more. The narrow norwegian road was taking us through a breathtaking landscape of high mountains and deep fjord valleys but with the many campers and heavy oncoming traffic, speed was down. And as could be expected, for the first time during the journey a light rain fell.

Arrival in Mo I Rana was going to be late. Very late. We travelled together with Petra and Robin from Holland. Our car wasn't in the best of states and sometime, near the arctic circle, I suddenly herd a motorbike (like a H.D.) at the rear. "How did this approach so fast", I thought, before I realised it was our car. A burst header was the explanation. Robin and Petra kindly chaperoned us the rest of the way to Mo i Rana.
