Day 3 - Umeå - Jokkmokk
This began as a VERY eventful day. Some ten + of us were flagged down by a most angry policeman just outside Umeå. After explaining that we were just touristing, mr policeman exclaimed : No I don't beleive that, and then went on to explain how many races had been going on nearby and that we were just another Gumball race, trying to speed through the country.
Eventually, the policeman (who turned out to be rather nice) started to beleive us and the pressure came down just as a couple of the british called us and said they had just been caught speeding....Not a good day in that respect.
Otherwise, we had a brilliant day. Sun blaring down on us, nice and warm. We visited a silly market in Bjurträsk and then went on to see the church town of Öjebyn where we were met by Jörgens parents and could see the interior of one of the church cottages.
Next stop was Storforsen, Europe's largest rapid, which was quite formidable as the snow has melted later than usual (Storforsen is by the Pite River which feeds from the melting snow in the fjells (mountains).
After that, everybody headed off to the arctic circle where many pictures were taken. A lot of people also bought t-shirts, co-memorating the event.
In the evening we dined at the Hotell Jokkmokk on smoked salmon, filet of reindeer and vanilla icecream with warm cloudberries. Yummii.
